Christian Mario Löhr is an award-winning cinematographer with an international and intercultural background. Born in Germany to German Colombian parents and raised in Kenya and Tanzania, Christian was exposed to a rich tapestry of cultures and experiences from a young age, which has influenced his passion for storytelling through the visual medium of cinematography.
After studying cinematography at the APA International Film School in Sydney (Australia) and the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne (Germany), Christian began to explore the world through the lens of a camera. Christian's travels and experiences have influenced his work, bringing a unique perspective to every project.
He is particularly drawn to intercultural and international projects, be they documentary, fictional, or commercial, that tell stories from new perspectives.
Christian's work has been recognised with numerous awards and nominations, including a Documentary Gold Award (NSW ACS) for "Whisper of the Marimba" (shot in Ecuador), a Student Gold Award (NSW ACS) & a Student Cinematography Award (2nd Vilmos Zsigmond Film Festival) for the documentary "Ironhead" (China) which also premiered at the Berlinale Film Festival and a Platinum Award (Fortean Film Festival) for the comedic feature film Ashens and the Polybius Heist (UK).
Additionally Christian was invited to attend the Berlinale Talent Campus in 2018 where he had the opportunity to connect with other emerging talents in the industry.
In 2023 Christian and his colleague Poutiaire Lionel Somé founded the production company “Across The Board” which focuses on intercultural narratives in form of documentaries, series and features for cinema and streaming. They are currently part of the Mediengründerzentrum scholarship program.
Driven by a desire to bridge cultures and create meaningful connections, Christian approaches each project with an open mind and a deep respect for the people and cultures involved.
Since he also speaks fluent English, German, Spanish and basic French, this has enabled Christian to connect with people of diverse backgrounds and understand different perspectives.
When not behind the camera, Christian can be found traveling, learning about different cultures, and connecting with people from all walks of life.
